Secondary Color Art Part 1

Complementary Colors OR Best Friend Colors

Red and green
Yellow and Purple
Blue and Orange

1st grade

They were given an example and told to follow the color pattern but to create their own designs in the boxes. I am amazed at how great they did at following directions. They even had to overcome the challenge of   the color difference of the example due to the smartboard irregularity!

Kindergarten

I read the book "Monsters Love New Colors" then we talked about best friend colors. They were given the choice of a group of colors to work with as well as black and white. After they drew they monster with crayon they got liquid watercolor (one color at a time). Then they got their colors again PLUS the 2 colors that mix to make their secondary color ex yellow, purple, blue and red

Warm and Cool Colors

2nd grade

students chose to paint watercolor paper with either warm or cool colors. Then a portrait was drawn on white paper. White paper was placed under clear transparency paper and traced over with black sharpie. They were then colored in with the opposite color group as the background.
